It’s been a long time since we posted on this blog. I was tempted to create this post because this is a “resignation-era”. According to ResumeBuilder.com, about 23% of the people do seek for new positions and 9% of the candidates have already got their new jobs in 2022. It is shocking to see that about 4 million Americans switched jobs during July 2021. Candidates who get first impression admired are likely to get called for the interview and since the opportunity becomes higher, chances of getting their jobs is also at higher rate. Most of the Americans do put up a simple portfolio website to showcase their gigs but here arises the question, given, what should be the tech stacks for portfolio website to be built.
If you are a programmer already, setting up a portfolio website should not take time as learning the skills (if you are on tech stack other than web) might be easier for you. However, if you are on the other side of the light, that is, when you need to seek someone or an organisation to build a website for you, well, you don’t have to worry.
In either cases, we would need to know if the tech stack for portfolio website should be heavy enough to attract your interviewer. Before we get into the tech stacks, your interviewer wants to know more about you and which is why you have setup a website.
If the contents on your resume is same on your portfolio website, then that’s not going to work for you. Your portfolio website shall contain links to your gigs, if possible add a widget on your portfolio website. For example, if you are a programmer, show your GitHub repositories, or StackOverflow followers. In other case, if you are a designer, add links to your Behance – well it itself a platform to showcase, but put your best works in your portfolio website.
Your work matters the most in both resume or on your portfolio website. Your education is secondary. Try highlighting your works more than your education. If you are an under-graduate, try to showcase your college projects and convince the recruiter that you are fit for job. Remember that recruiters hire you because they want your skills to be utilised and not because you have an A+ in your mark sheet.
Pop in as much attractive works before their eyes in a short span of time. Choosing a color for your portfolio website is also an important decision to be made before you build a portfolio website. Most people prefer dark more, but still we have a population with light mode fans, and thus choose a color wisely to attract them both, or it is even better if you can provide them the option to toggle between their preferences, or read from their system default mode.
